Certificate in Computer Hardware
NOW ENROLLING FOR AUTUMN 2017
The Certificate in Computer Hardware provides key foundational knowledge in the areas of digital systems, computer architecture and network. From understanding the concepts and theories underlying modern computer hardware, students will be able to operate and configure computer equipment, make informed equipment choices and use troubleshooting techniques and strategies to identify typical hardware and configuration problems.
In the study of computer hardware, students will additionally experience the closely associated areas of networking and system administration. Learners will be exposed to a variety of computer hardware and operating systems in a modern third-level teaching environment, and will also gain basic skills in the areas of digital electronics and physical layer infrastructure. In particular, platforms such as the Raspberry Pi will demonstrate the links between computer hardware and its controlling software. This programme may therefore be of particular interest to those wishing to pursue hobbyist or formal interests in emerging Internet of Things devices, which combine a unique blend of simple electronics and controlling software.
Graduates will emerge with sound theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and most importantly, the capacity to continue self-directed learning in the field.

Dundalk Institute of Technology – QQI Level 7 (30 credits)
Who Should Apply?
If you are interested in a future career in or with computing, in particular in the fields of hardware, networking or systems administration, this is the starting point for you. The Certificate in Computer Hardware is a key enabling qualification for both employment and further study, in addition to providing an integrated self-contained skill set. It provides a qualification recognised within both local and national enterprises. You can also continue your studies here at Dundalk IT, either by:
- taking another part-time Certificate (Computer Networking, System Administration or Computer Service Management),
- upgrading to a full-time degree level programme at DkIT.
How To Apply
Enrol online via the Green button above.
Classes run on Monday and Wednesday evenings 6.00pm to 9.00pm for two semesters.
As you would expect from a computing course, a lot of the material will be presented online. It is however very hands-on.You will do a lot of practical work. This requires intensive work at home at a computer, but also the attendance at practical sessions, which are there to help you to overcome hurdles.
Monday 25th September at 6.00pm (subject to change)
Standard Level 7 Entry Requirements: Six passes in the Leaving Certificate (including Mathematics and either English or Irish) and either one Grade C3 in a Higher Level Paper or an overall points total of 200.
Mature students are not required to have the minimum Leaving Certificate required, but should provide any relevant additional information in support of their application.
Mature students may be interviewed.
PLEASE NOTE WE OFFER AN EARLY BIRD 10% DISCOUNT IF YOU ENROL BY 1st MAY (€1,980 payable instead of €2,200 - a saving of €220!)
