Certificate in Building Energy Management (NFQ Level 6)

The course is a 12 week part-time programme, providing an opportunity for individuals with trades background and professionals working within the property industry to study for this Level 6 Certificate in Building Energy Management. The programme will focus on Sustainable Energy, Energy Technology, Project Management, Energy Policy & Legislation and Energy Auditing. The knowledge, skills and competencies that participants will gain are relevant to their career development. The treatment of all programme subjects will encourage the development of intellectual skills of analysis, synthesis, critique and communication. This will be achieved by building upon both prior learning and experience of participants to develop a broader understanding of low energy building design and management. In addition, the selection of a research topic as part of work-based learning will allow the student to concentrate on one or more of these directions.

Who Should Apply?
This course has been designed to facilitate professionals practicing in the areas of building design, management and technology. Its purpose is to provide expertise in terms of; energy use, environmental performance and sustainability in the design and operation of buildings and their associated facilities and services systems.

The programme is delivered in three and half hour classes, two evenings per week (plus some Saturdays) for ONE academic semester.
Induction class: Tuesday 31st January (6.00pm-8.00pm)
Classes commence: Thursday 2nd February (6.00pm-9.30pm)
To be eligible for entry to the course, prospective candidates must have obtained one of the following:
- Five passes in the Leaving Certificate including Mathematics and either Irish or English.
- Pass grade in the LCVP.
- Applicants with equivalent qualifications and/or relevant minimum 5 years work experience in the case of mature student applications (i.e. over 23 years of age).
- Applicants MUST have a trades background or be a professional working within the property industry.
