Course Presentation

The Certificate for Accounting Technicians offers a progression pathway into the Diploma for Accounting Technicians. In order to receive the Certificate for Accounting Technicians you must successfully complete the following subjects:

  • Financial Accounting
  • Taxation
  • Law & Ethics
  • Business Management

The Institute of Accounting Technicians in Ireland (www.accountingtechniciansireland.ie).

The Certificate for Accounting Technicians is aligned for Level 6 of the Irish National Qualifications Framework (NFQ) in the Republic of Ireland.

The Diploma for Accounting Technicians is aligned for Level 6 of the Irish National Qualifications Framework (NFQ) in the Republic of Ireland.

Who Should Apply?

This course is aimed at employees working alongside qualified accountants in business, industry, private practice and public sector. If successful they may pursue further studies to qualify as professional accountants or registered auditors. By the time you qualify you will have learned to:

  • Prepare financial statements
  • Prepare financial reports and other management information
  • Compute tax liabilities for companies and for individuals
  • Set up and manage systems for budgets, stock control, cost accounting, cash reconciliation
  • Set up and manage credit control procedures
  • Use computers effectively in business environment.

Course Duration

Two evenings per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) from 6.30-9.30p.m. for two academic years.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate - 5 passes on ordinary level papers at Grade D or better (including English and Mathematicsor Accountancy)

or

Leaving Certificate - 4 passes of which at least two are on higher level papers at Grade D or better (including English and Mathematics or Accountancy).

Persons who are over 21 years of age and have gained suitable experience may make application for enrolment as a student member on the basis of their age and experience rather than on their educational attainments. This facility is often helpful to people returning to work after an absence.

Fees Information

Tuition fee payable to Dundalk Institute of Technology is €350.00 per subject per annum.
